The Cycle of Evolution Design (CED) is a concept that can be defined as a balanced framework that combines the geocentric ideology, inside the heliocentric system, creating a compromise of divergence inside malleable convergent margins. It allows the designer to practice creativity and problem-solving, while understanding the ecocentric outer state of the universe. This builds a constant evolution of an idea, project or system in conjunction with its ‘parent’.
In spite of the CED being composed of circles as well as squares, the direction of its working starts from the inside outward in a clockwise direction, until a 360º revolution occurs – marking the conclusion of an idea’s/project’s evolution. With the central focus being on planet sustainability, composed of environmental, financial, social and political perspectives (surrounded by four main domains: behaviour, research, development and utility), the eight-step journey begins with (1) ecosystem behaviour, where connectors and coordinators (inspired from the Design Council study) explore the state and study of human, environmental, and social behaviours at the present moment in response to the community's state. It examines where the problem stems from, and constructs a visual map of inputs and outputs.
In (2) holistic discovery and (3) systems strategy, the interdisciplinary thinkers conduct research into material science, psychology, sustainable energy, societal effects and more, followed by developing a systemic strategy, viable for all core perspectives. Designers and engineers follow up with thorough product experimentation and fabrication trials ((4) product development), building the foundations for its (5) identity design. Entering a more utilitarian stage of the cycle, directors and storytellers start assembling an online and offline (6) brand communication strategy, involving web, advertising, sensual experiences and various other touchpoints such as packaging, that is then presented as a narrative through effective storytelling in various campaigns, events, workshops and social media posts; (7) story delivery.
CED is a process that never stops or stays the same. Stemming from its name, CED expands, changes and evolves its outcomes, design teams and total vision, in conjunction with how the community and industry matures, develops and progresses.
